Našel jsem v manuálu HP5L, je tam uveden rok 1995:
Status Window

The Status Window displays a pop-up message on your computer's screen

each time the printer status changes. The Status Window will report any

problem, error condition, or other status message directly to your computer

screen (when the printer is connected directly to the parallel port).

The Status Window includes comprehensive screen helps. Use these helps

to obtain detailed information and instructions on the Status Window.

je nějaká zmínka o problému indikace docházejícího toneru u HP4. Žádné čidlo
tam není, není to jak indikovat, ale když se píše o Status monitoru, tak asi
nějaký SW existuje. Nic jsem nenašel.
Když je tiskárna vedle PC, tak žádná indikace paper jam nebo out není třeba.
Chtěl jsem to zkusit po síti. Tiskárna bude stejně připojena na LPT a pro
tisk s DOSu. Proto HP4L.

Na originálních disketách (CD tenkrát ještě nebyly) nic takového nebylo.
Ani jsem nikdy na nic takového nenarazil - teda ne že bych to chtěl
instalovat. SW k produktům HP bývá dost děsný.
